According to a filing with the California Employment Development Department, security company Triple Canopy Inc. plans to permanently lay off 226 employees at its Sacramento location. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect on March 31.
Triple Canopy, which was founded in 2003 by military veterans, including some in special forces, provides security guards, security management, and risk management services. It is a subsidiary of Herndon, Virginia-based Constellis, a security and security management company that operates in about 40 countries.

Constellis offers a range of services, including private security and defense contracting, investigations, training, and global kidnap and ransom consulting. On its website, Constellis lists Sacramento positions such as security guard, court security officer, security supervisor, and background investigator. Court security officers work at federal courthouses or other areas under contract to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Constellis recently announced that it had recorded nearly $5 billion in contract awards in the preceding 12 months, representing a 250% increase and establishing a new milestone for the government contractor. These contracts were with the Department of Energy, Department of State, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, and others.
It’s worth noting that Thermo Fisher Scientific, a life sciences company with a location in San Diego, also recently announced job cuts. The company has not specified how many employees will be affected, but it is believed to be a small percentage of its workforce.
